Chicken, duck and rabbit breeding are important for improving the diet of rural families. This task is generally carried out by the mother and is compatible with other rural activities. Our aim is to teach students who can then replicate the model in their homes. The training includes a programme that is suited to local conditions and gives users great satisfaction. Students learn by doing, through learning and practicing the technique. The programme includes information on types of feed; building chicken coops, rabbit hutches and duck houses; disease prevention; veterinary supplies; equipment and facilities; and business management and profitability. Training is supervised by technicians from the Livestock Department. Initial results indicate great student interest in this activity and substantial improvements in daily school meals. |
